Happy Easter

The Easter Bunny brought me this really sweet Griswold #9 skillet with a matching cover. I guess I'm glad I didn't shoot his ass last year. I loves me a number 9 (11 3/4 inches in diameter) and in addition to being a favorite size this beauty also sports a heatring. The skillet was cast in the 1920s or 1930s.

The skillet cover is also a beautiful casting. Covers of this type were produced between 1915 to 1935.

Crisp, precise, uniform casting makes me a happy boy. I have barely begun the seasoning process on this set but you can be sure I'll take my time and do it right.

Your new skillet looks nice; keep us updated.

As a comment about the new blog layout -- it scrolls VERY slowly, at least on the computers I've used to view the blog. Not sure why...

SparticleBrane - Thanks

It scrolls quickly for me on several systems except for the 7 year old Mac G4 MDD tower I use to put the blog together.

It only has 64MB of video memory which is pretty feeble nowadays.

Happy Easter!

Nice! Have you changed your seasoning technique any? It looks more brown than black in these pics.

It really isn't seasoned yet. I've only done a light coat of Crisco at 250 degrees mostly as protection from rust.

Waiting for warmer weather when I can open the windows or do it outside on my grill.

Very nice! I do love my Griswold cast iron. I've never seen a lid like that!

I'm getting the very slow picture load, too. And I'm viewing on a dual-core processor with 4 megs of ram. My internet server only squeaks out about 1 gigabyte of download speed, but I never had any problems with your other blog design. Just an FYI.

(and congrats on the pan! I've only got three Griswold skillet lids, but they're the all-important #8, #9, and #10 (high dome, that one) sizes, so they're very useful)

** I changed the formatting so only 4 posts appear per page rather than 10.

I cannot get the "slow loading" to occur on any recent systems that I use and I have access to well over a dozen.

It's improved! Whatever you did, did the trick. Thanks, Greg. (unless, of course, it's just because these pages are in my cache. I'll let you know what happens once you have new pics)

Are you on the Lodge mailing list? They are having a Cinco de Mayo sale. 20 percent off selected items. Some sale. The cactus pan is 19.95. Our local Target store has them for 14.95. I have found that several times where buying direct from Lodge is more expensive.

Chilebrown - I don't get their mailings/emails.

I find small hardware stores and Amazon.com usually have good pricing on Lodge.

Hey I miss you man! Where have you been?

Hope everything's okay, Greg. (isn't it a pain when you start something that everybody comes to expect you'll continue on a regular basis, or they worry? ;-)

Anon & Becky - Everything is fine, I just have no topics rattling around in my head right now.

Thanks for asking.
